Tips for Photographing Artwork

For the best lighting of your work use natural light. If photographing outdoors make sure it is on a cloudy day. You will get a blue cast from the sky on a sunny day. If indoors, find a bright part of the room and again it is best on a cloudy day or on a sunny day diffuse with a curtain.

Do not use incandescent or fluorescent light sources. If you want artificial light use a  full spectrum light bulb only. They cost more but they also are best for painting or photographs.

If art is under glass, remove the glass to avoid reflections.

For best results place the art on the floor on a neutral backdrop.

Position your camera so that all sides of your art are straight. This takes a little time to find the best shot. You can use the zoom function to make sure your photo is crisp and not blurry.

Take more than one shot and pick the best one. They are used for publicity.

Crop so that the art becomes full frame. Linda Hogan can do this if you don’t know how to crop.

Give permission to Linda Hall for Linda Hogan to correct your photo if necessary.

6.        VNRC will feature the work of exhibited arts on the acknowledgement cards they send to their donors. Would you like your image to be included?  Yes/No

Lastly, there will be a opening reception at VNRC during the Friday, ArtWalk – June 6. Exact time TBD – (4:30-7 is the approx time period)
We encourage ALL artists in the show to attend the ArtWalk evening reception if possible.
VNRC sends off their own outreach/PR for this event including submissions to all local newspaper/online publications.

Once we have the information for the opening reception, we will share it with all artists so you can do your own publicity – share with friends and family if you so choose.

Thank you!
